Why did North America just hand over their wealth and power?

Free Trade meant corporations could pull out almost all manufacturing from Canada and United States and ship it overseas or to Mexico.

The corporations got rich, the C.E.O.’s got rich. People could buy goods at very low prices so our standard of living went up. For a while.

We had conservative/republican governments that are heavy into tax cuts for corporations. They believe that if they give the corporations free reign, the country would be better off for it. After all that has happened, how can they still believe this? It’s been proved that Capitalism doesn’t work.

I believe, after the computer revolution, the thinking was that we would get out of manufacturing and the new good jobs would be in technology. Didn’t happen.

China now has a booming economy and holds most of the U.S. debt. The city of Shanghai had a population growth of 5 million people last year. China was 80 or 90 percent agriculture and 10 or 20 percent urban. They are moving towards 70% urban and 30% suburban now.

A long time ago, it used to be the people that voted for governments, not the corporations. That changed with marketing and “spin”. People believed what thee corporation told them and voted the way the corporations wanted.

Now, we don’t have very many good jobs and our economies are tanking, some of the banks are in severe trouble and the future doesn’t look so bright anymore.

They’re may be a new normal established here. Our standard of living and our expectations will have to go way down to survive.
