In late 2008, an Ipso Reid survey found that 74 percent of Burlington residents said that Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital was their number one choice of where to spend our tax dollars. City Council is suggesting that we pay for that through an extra property tax of 45 million over the next 20 years. (That would be approximately 2.25 million per year.) Perhaps we don’t have the money for our hospital because we spent it on the following:
The Pan-Am Games Soccer Stadium received four per cent support of where to spend tax dollars. We have 8.9 million for this.
We have 9.4 million for the Brant Street Pier.
We have 14.8 million for the twin pad at the Appleby Ice centre.
We have 36.2 million for the Performing Arts Centre.
So, 74% want our money to go to the hospital and we spend 69.3 million on Sports and Leisure. Something doesn’t seem right to me. What am I missing?
